Vol.2.Teruka Ogawa’s 1st Anniversary Gathering finished last night.
.
Anniversary gathering vol.2.guest speaker was Kouyou Ishida, who runs Shin-Nihon Enmeigaku, New Japan Life Prolongation therapy/massage clinic in Osaka.
We asked him how traditional Japanese performing artists move their bodies, how the traditional Japanese lifestyle burdens our bodies, and how to treat our bodies.

He explained the treatment and history of Shin Nihon Enmeigaku therapy.
.
As for the background of SNE, he taught about 禅病, Zen-Byou, Zen-disease, which Zen monks have suffered for a long time.
.
He explained traditional Japanese culture’s breathing and physical movements tendencies and how these affect our body and blood functions.
.
.
After that, we learned exercises and massage.
He answered personal questions and taught us treatments and exercises for each person.
.
.
Before the gathering, I had dance lessons with my international students,
and we practised how to have a good posture.
.
So, there was a lot to learn, especially differences in physique and frequent-use muscles of the Japanese and the westerners etc.
.
I understood that it makes sense that martial arts and 芸事/geigoto,
traditional Japanese arts were born in Japan and still exist because it sincerely linked with Japanese physiques.

I felt we touched the mystery and wisdom of body & culture.

In our heads and body, we learned a lot!
