I wrote that it’s good to have these 7 things for the dance lesson in a previous post.

I will write the details of the post.

①Dancing fan

Where can I buy a dancing fan?
It might be the biggest question for preparation.

I buy dancing props from

「平田照樹堂/ Hirata Shoujyu Dou」

in Osaka.

They have a shop in Nishi-Shinsaibashi, the center of Osaka city.
They also have an online shop t Rakuten-Ichiba.

楽天市場/Rakuten HP→ http://www.hirataya.co.jp/

There are many types of fan.
Fan for traditional dance, kyogen, and noh etc…

Even for Japanese traditional dance, there are many types of Japanese traditional dance such as 古典舞踊/koten-buyoh/ classic traditional dance, 新舞踊/shin-buyoh/ modern traditional dance, and 民踊/min-yoh/ folk traditional dance etc…

And each genre uses different types of fan.

Then, how could I choose the one for me…?

Hirata Shoujyu Do is a prop shop specialized in Japanese traditional dance, so you can feel at ease choosing from them.

If you’re going to practice Kamigatamai, and want to buy a fan from Hirata, then choose from

「古典の方向け舞扇/Fan for classin traditional dance」

(For beginners, I recommend a fan of less than 5,000yen and a simple one.
Anyway, please feel free to ask me if you think to get one.)

②Yukata, Koshihimo-strings, Datejime

For beginners, I recommend a yukata which you can wash in a laundry machine with no worry.

You can buy yukata & koshihimo at online shops.

In this summertime, you can find yukatas in front of every kimono shops.

I went to a kimono shop, and under this circumstance, most of the yukatas are less than 5,000yen!

A koshihimo: 400yen *3= 1,200yen
A datejime: 2,500yen *1=2,500yen
A yukata =4,000yen

Total around: 6,700yen.

※When you buy yukata, please check the size of
「裄/Yuki」,
the length from the centre of your back to the end of your arms.

In traditional dance, sleeves are part of props.

So, choose longer length 裄/yuki- yukata.

It is considered that it looks cool with shorter 裄yuki for yukata, but yukata might get shrunk when you wash.
So, choose yukata with 2~3cm longer 裄/yuki than your basic length for your kimono.

I’m 162cm tall and have a bit longer arms.

So, for kimono, my 裄length is around 68cm, but when I buy yukata, I choose yukata with 70cm 裄。

③肌着/Hadagi-underwear and 足袋/Tabi white sox

At the beginning of the beginning, you can wear a dress slip instead of hadagi.

At online shops, there are a set of yukata & obi & hadagi, or a set of hadagi & tabi etc…!

A pair of hadagi + tabi could be around 3,000yen.

If you want to train dance more, then you can buy hadagi for traditional dance at Hirata Shojyu Dou.

○Hadagi for dance(a pair of it : 7,000 yen )
○Tabi for dance/ with 5 hooks(a pair of tabi: 2,500yen)

・・・・・

①A fan 4,000 yen
②yukata/koshihimo/datejime 6,700 yen
③hadagi+tabi:3,000yen

Total: 13,700yen

・・・Less than 15,000yen, you can start the lesson♪

However, if you feel like [I might forget to buy something at an online shop] or [I’m not sure if I can choose the best sized one for myself]

Then, I recommend going to the kimono shop, tell the staff that you are looking for a total set of yukata with a longer 裄 yuki length. 👘

Anyhow!
If you have questions to prepare things you’ll need for dance lessons,
please do feel free to ask me 👘🙏!!
