Today, I’ll explain more about lessons in Copenhagen, so that you can imagine what it’s like to join traditional kamigatamai dance lessons.

<School system>:

Traditional Japanese art schools are structured in a hierachial organization run by the head of the school, called Oiemoto.

It means that we place importance on paying respect not only to our teachers but also to others, such as fellow students and related people, and to chances and opportunities.
We also respect good manners.

However, here in the classes in Denmark, you don’t have to be as formal.
We’ll learn with mutual respect, and I hope we all enjoy dancing together.

<Class introduction and structure>:

1. The class starting in Denmark is for beginners. And for now, the class is only for group lessons.

There will be private lessons in the future for people who want more detailed instructions and to learn traditional customs.

2. For the beginner’s classes, there will be small theoretical lessons for basic understanding, and we will learn four dances.

3. At the end of the beginner level, once you finish learning all four dances, there will be a test to proceed to the next level.

<General information>:

1. Place: Mainly at Ogawaryu dance studio, in Østerbro, København.

2. Monthly fee: Adults below 30: 500 kr, adults 30 or older: 625 kr.

The discrepancy is due to the new Danish VAT (moms) rules that only apply to people above 30.
     If you’re over 30 years old, 500 kr + VAT 125 kr = 625 kr/month.

    3. Lesson: 90min × 2 times in a month (including preparation)

    <Preparation>:

For beginners – comfortable clothing with indoor soft sole shoes (e.g. ‘kinasko’ or similar)

In the future, if you continue in our classes, you will need: a pair of white tabi-sox, a yukata, an obi for the yukata, 2~3 strings/koshihimo, yukata innerwear, 2 dancing fans, and a dancing parasol.

※ You can wear your daily clothes during theory lessons

※ We’ll check your size for yukata together

※ I’ll help you with buying items online
